What is Rugby?
Rugby is a full contact team sport that originated in England in the 19th century. American football is derived from early forms of rugby! Rugby has steadily gained popularity in the USA over the last 40 years and the rugby 7’s game will be introduced at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio

Allen Rugby competes in the Rugby Texas high school conference against teams throughout Texas. Youth and high school rugby in Texas currently has 1400 players and 57 teams.

Allen Rugby History
Allen High School Rugby Club was founded by John Shafto in Fall 2004 after his 8th grade son decided he wanted to play rugby during high school. The club has experienced continued growth since 2004 and a number of alumni players participate in college rugby teams. Our current coaches are OU rugby alumni and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the club.

Season and Training
Allen Rugby trains and plays year round. The 7’s season runs from August – December and the 15’s season from January – June. Training is held on the “lacrosse” field behind the high school on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.

Club Mission
Allen Rugby strives to foster comradeship, teamwork and sportsmanship among its players. Our goal is to promote a love of the worlds most exciting and widespread contact sport along with the ethics and ethos that the game represents.
